- The Salt Lake County Library has compiled this list of the
"best of the best" from the American Library Association's list
of books it considers to be "outstanding" for those pursuing
formal higher education or for those who just wish to be better
educated. The fiction books on this list have appeared on the
Outstanding Books for the College Bound Lists four times or
more. Non-fiction, plays, and biographies have appeared six
times or more. Titles with an * have appeared on all ten lists.
These books are not solely classics, nor are they the best sellers.
They will not get a reader into college, but they can make that
reader a more educated, well read person.
