Vista High School

In May 2002, the Board of Trustees approved the application for the development of Vista High School. The state approved the program and funding at the end of June, and was opened in August 2002. The program is designed to retain the connection that our students have with El Dorado, while providing the support and flexibility inherent in a continuation high school program. The design of Vista High School provides a unique blend of the attributes of a comprehensive high school and a more personalized small-school setting. Many of our students take elective classes at El Dorado High School, as space is available in these classes. In addition, we have developed a visiting professor program in which E Dorado teacher’s present lessons from their areas of expertise or interests.

The goal of this program is to develop a learning community. Vista’s core values shape the philosophy, relationships, decisions, communications, and program evaluation. These values are:
• Every Vista High School student deserves to feel important and to understand that they will succeed and that we will not give up on them
• Student learning is the result of effective instruction
• All members of Vista High have the right to a safe and healthy environment
• Differences are to be respected and valued
• Vista students will know they are important contributors to the community
• Respect is the cornerstone of a healthy learning environment
Also, another primary goal for both Vista and El Dorado High Schools is to ensure a seamless relationship with El Dorado High School for all students.
