MENTORS PLUS: is a new EDHS program that matches volunteer mentors with freshmen at EDHS and 6th-8th graders at Markham. We are looking for caring individuals (EDHS staff and students) who are interested in becoming a mentor. 1-to-1 mentoring takes place on campus, is fun, and a great way to contribute to our community. Everyone is welcome to apply: adults - food, grounds, security, education or administration staff; youth – juniors and seniors. Mentoring qualifies for community service obligations. SAC STATE and ALL CSU's: The California State University application window opened last Wednesday. If you're applying to Sac State or any other CSU, start your application this weekend! If you need help getting started, stop by the Career Center during lunch, unscheduled 6th or 7th period, or after school. The application website is csumentor.com
UC APPLICATIONS: The UC application essay prompts are available online and in the Career Center. Get a head start on your UC application by working on your essay in October. Visit the Career Center or universityofcalifornia.edu/apply for details.
YOUTH TO YOUTH CONFERENCE: Thursday, October 23, 2008: Students who plan to participate in this year’s Y2Y Conference see your TUPE teacher. For those students planning to participate as a student peer leader, Peer Leadership Training Day is Wednesday, October 22nd see your TUPE teacher. If you have been invited to attend the Youth Conference, Parent Permission forms MUST be turned in to your TUPE teacher by October 10th.
WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY? Want to build up your volunteer and leadership experience? Apply for the El Dorado Grants Advisory Board for Youth. Youth board members review and award youth-led grants of up to $2,500 each. Applications can be picked up in the Career Center, but hurry - the due date is October 13th! (10/1-10/10)
SIGN UP NOW FOR THE P.S.A.T.: Freshmen, Sophomores & Juniors are strongly encouraged to sign up for the P.S.A.T - the practice test for the S.A.T. The test is on Wednesday, October 15th at 8:30 in the Large Gym, and the cost is $15 cash or check. Sign up now in the Counseling Office.
