College Planning - Juniors

Fall

  • Take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 12, at EDHS.  You must take the test in 11th grade to qualify for scholarships and programs associated with the National Merit Scholarship Program. Visit the PSAT page on the counseling website for more information.
  • Heavily research what college might be right for you
  • Attend College Rep Visits in the Upper Quad at lunch.
  • Consider taking a leadership role in one of your activities.

Spring

  • Take the ACT or the SAT - sign up early to get a good testing location. Note: Many 4-year colleges no longer require these tests. Be sure to visit the website of the college(s) you are interested in to see if they require the ACT or SAT.
  • If you are interested in a UC campus, click here to see if you should consider taking SAT subject tests.
  • Begin investigating scholarship opportunities. Local scholarships will be available during the Winter/Spring of your senior year.
  • Attend Career Expo at UMHS in the Spring.

Summer Before 12th Grade:

  • Start narrowing down your list of colleges and consider taking campus tours to help narrow it down even more.
  • Contact the schools you are interested in and request information on applications and admissions. Ask about financial aid and deadlines.
  • Use the Studentaid.gov aid-estimator, and compare the results to the actual costs at the colleges to which you will apply.
