Work Permit Process
A work permit is required for all students under the age of 18. Students do not complete a work permit until after they have been employed.
Follow the instructions below to submit a work permit request:
- Download and print the Request for Work Permit or pick one up in the EDHS College & Career Center.
- Complete pg. 1 of the permit, as well as all three sections on pg. 2 (minor’s information, parent signature, and employer information). These sections must be complete before submitting your work permit.
- Email option: Scan and email completed work permit to syurkovic@eduhsd.k12.ca.us
OR
- Turn in your completed work permit to the College & Career Center in Room A-210.
- The permit will be processed and returned to you. Please allow 24 hrs for processing.

Student Contract (Pg. 1 of permit):
Students will not be issued a work permit if they currently have below a 2.0 GPA or have any failing grades (F). Students and parent/guardians requesting a work permit must sign pg. 1 of the "Request for Work Permit" which also acknowledges that if the student falls below a 2.0 GPA or receives an F while employed, their permit will become void and they will no longer be allowed to work.
Work Permit Hours:
- 14-15 Year Olds:
Schools are “in session” Monday through Friday. School is considered "not in session" during summer break.
- When school is in session; daily maximum 3 hours, weekly maximum 18 hours.
- Generally may not work during school hours.
- When school is not in session: daily maximum 8 hours, weekly maximum 40 hours.
- Student can work between 7am and 7pm.
- During the summer, students can work until 9 pm.
- 16-17 Year Olds:
Schools are “in session” Monday through Friday. School is considered "not in session" during summer break.- When school is in session; daily maximum 4 hours, weekly maximum 36 hours, except 48 hours if student is in work experience program.
- Generally may not work during school hours except in work experience program.
- When school is not in session; daily maximum 8 hours, weekly maximum 48 hours.
- Student can work between 5am and 10pm.
- May work until 12:30 am on days preceding non-school days.
DISTANCE LEARNING:
Students will be following the “REGULAR” work permit guidelines Monday-Friday. ISP and ODLP students are not exempt, 36 hours maximum during “school in session”. Schools are “in session” Monday through Friday. Job Board

The College & Career Centers at the four comprehensive high schools in the El Dorado Union High School District have joined forces to offer a FREE resource for students seeking employment and/or career development opportunities in El Dorado County.
This website will assist students in connecting with local businesses and organizations in our community that offer employment, internships, job shadows, and volunteer opportunities for current and graduated EDUHSD students. The website will be live year-round and will be updated regularly as new opportunities become available.
